Why Ohio State can cover

The Buckeyes just don't lose conference games anymore, as they have won 23 consecutive contests against Big Ten rivals since suffering a 49-20 loss at Purdue on Oct. 20, 2018. In addition, they own a 21-game winning streak versus ranked conference opponents. Ohio State also has won all 13 of its true road games since the setback at Purdue and 12 straight meetings with ranked opponents away from home.

Redshirt freshman quarterback C.J. Stroud is coming off his fourth 400-yard performance of the season and ranks eighth in the nation in both passing yards (3,468) and completion percentage (71.1) while tying for fourth in touchdown tosses (36). Chris Olave is tied for second in the country as he has hauled in 13 of those scoring passes, including 11 during his current eight-game streak, and is coming off his fifth 100-yard effort of the year as he gained 140 on seven catches against the Spartans. Freshman TreVeyon Henderson has run for a TD in eight of his 11 games and is tied for 10th in the nation with 14 rushing touchdowns while ranking 19th with 1,098 yards on the ground.

Why Michigan can cover

Ohio State is tied for 12th in the nation with 35 sacks, but the Wolverines possess one of the country's top offensive lines. Michigan gives up the fifth-fewest sacks per game at 0.82 and ranks first in fewest tackles for loss allowed with an average of 2.18. The unit has helped senior running back Hassan Haskins post his first 1,000-yard season (1,063), which includes five 100-yard performances, and record five two-touchdown efforts en route to 13 rushing TDs.

Three of the nine sacks allowed by the Wolverines came against Indiana on Nov. 6, the only game this season in which Cade McNamara was taken down more than once. The junior signal-caller has connected with nine different receivers for 14 touchdowns, registering at least two in each of his last four contests. McNamara threw one of his two scoring passes in last week's 59-18 rout at Maryland to rookie running back Donovan Edwards, who finished with more receiving yards on 10 catches in that game (170) than he has amassed on 27 rushing attempts in eight contests this year (149).
